MECK YR HAPPY HOUR

Hello to all Meck YRs! As most of you know, we have our general meeting every month & last month we started our Happy Hour Social event at Smalls in Elizabeth. All who attended had a wonderful time!

Next month, we will be having our event at Crave Desert Bar on 5/16 from 6pm – 10pm. Check out their website at www.cravedesertbar.com. There will be drink & appetizer specials.

Confirmed to attend the debate on the 24th is Senator Robert Pittenger, Sheriff Jim Pendergraph, Ken Lenocyzk, Jon Gauthier, Mike Steinberg, Dan Barry & Richard Lynch. We also expect Councilman Andy Dulin, House member Ric Killian, and Edwin Peacock to attend as well. The event will be live streamed out on www.cltblog.com. A customized twitter hash tag has been created for the event so folks may also live tweet using the #meckyr09 hashtag to stay up to date in the event.

Mecklenburg County Young Republicans To Hold Presidential, Congressional, and State Straw Poll on February 28^th at 6:30 PM at Dilworth Neighborhood Grill

        Charlotte NC ~ On Thursday February 28^th at 6:30 pm the Mecklenburg County Young Republicans (“Meck YRs”) will hold a straw poll of the Republican candidates for President and Congress along with the relevant Council of State and General Assembly races. These races will include any Mecklenburg County Republican primary with one or more filed candidates on the day before the meeting. This includes the 8^th, 9^th, and 12^th Congressional Districts, along with all statewide offices.

Candidates will be allowed to speak for one minute prior to voting. Only paid members of the Meck YR’s will be allowed to vote in the straw poll. To sign up to join the Meck YR’s you can go to www.meckyr.com to pay online or you can join at the meeting. Individuals 18-40 years of age may join for twenty dollars and anyone else may join as an associate member for thirty-five dollars

The featured speaker for the evening will be outgoing District 5 County Commissioner Neil Cooksey. Also speaking at the meeting will be the Chair of the Frederick Douglas Foundation Earl Phillips. He will be discussing the importance of Black History Month and the need to recruit more African Americans into the Republican Party.
